Synapse

User Guide

Everything you can do in Synapse — and how.

Synapse is an AI health journal. Instead of forms and food databases, you just tell it what happened in plain language and it logs the details, estimates nutrition, and surfaces patterns across your days. Here's how to get the most out of it.

1. Logging — just talk

The Chat tab is home base. Type (or dictate) what you ate, drank, how you slept, your workouts, your mood, or any symptoms — in everyday words:

Synapse turns each into a structured entry — for food it estimates calories and macros automatically. Logged something earlier? Just say so ("yesterday I skipped lunch", "slept badly Tuesday") and it records it at the right time. Tap a card to fine-tune the serving size if an estimate looks off.

2. Photos & barcodes

Tap the camera icon in Chat to take a meal photo or pick one from your library — Synapse identifies the foods and logs them. You can also scan a product barcode to log a packaged item from its nutrition data. Add a note with a photo ("the dressing was light") to help it get the details right.

3. Your day — the Today tab

Today shows your running calories and macros, an energy timeline (what you've taken in versus burned, hour by hour), and a feed of everything you logged grouped by meal. Tap any entry to adjust its serving, edit the time, or delete it. Set daily calorie and macro targets in Profile (or just ask the AI to suggest them) and they'll show up here.

4. Ask your data — Insights

Open Insights from the icon at the top-right of Chat. Ask real questions about your own history — "how's my protein been this week?", "what do my worst-sleep days have in common?" — and get specific answers drawn from your logs. Synapse also surfaces Quick Trends: concrete patterns it notices on its own. Deeper analysis unlocks once you've logged a few days in a row.

5. Plan meals & your fridge

On the Plan tab you can save meals you eat often (and favorite the best ones), keep a list of what's in your fridge, and tap Plan my week to auto-generate meal ideas built around your goals, your favorites, and what you already have. Saving and re-logging meals is free and instant — no AI round-trip needed.

6. Apple Health

Optionally connect Apple Health (from Profile) to pull in workouts, sleep, and activity so they appear alongside what you log by hand — one complete timeline. It's read-only, opt-in, and you can disconnect anytime in iOS Settings → Health.

7. Free vs. Premium

Synapse is free to use with a daily limit on AI chat and photo logging. Premium (with a 7-day free trial) unlocks unlimited AI logging, deeper insights, AI meal planning, and Apple Health sync. Saving meals and your Today view are always free. Manage or cancel your subscription anytime through the App Store.

8. Notifications, export & privacy

Turn gentle reminders on or off in Settings (meal check-ins, a daily summary, streak milestones). You can export your data as a CSV, set how long entries are kept, and delete your account — which permanently removes your logs, profile, and photos — all from Settings. See our Privacy Policy for how your data is handled.
